OUR STORY

Lusdivina De Leon is a proud Latina businesswoman and the driving force behind several beloved culinary ventures in Portland, Oregon. Her latest restaurant, Madrina, is a heartfelt tribute to the strength, grace, and guidance of Latina women—the godmothers, the mentors, the matriarchs who help shape our lives.

Lucy’s story begins in the fields, where she worked as a 7-year-old migrant alongside her family. From a young age, she learned the values of perseverance, resilience, and hard work—qualities that would carry her through life and inspire her entrepreneurial spirit. Her family later opened Tortilleria y Tienda De Leon’s, a humble grocery and deli in Northeast Portland known for authentic Mexican food and warm hospitality.

In recent years, Lucy took the reins, expanding the family business into Salsas Locas, a Southeast Portland-based manufacturing site and deli that now supplies food to schools and grocery stores throughout the region.

But Lucy always dreamed of creating sit-down restaurants that reflected both her family's culinary roots and her personal vision. After launching La Patroncita, she was inspired to create a new concept—one that honors the wisdom and nurturing presence of the madrina, or godmother.

Madrina is more than just a restaurant—it’s a space rooted in care, culture, and community. With a mature and motherly atmosphere, Madrina offers refined Mexican cuisine in a setting that feels like home. The menu celebrates traditional flavors while embracing creativity, prepared with intention and love.

The name Madrina reflects the spirit Lucy hopes to cultivate: one of mentorship, empowerment, and support—especially for other Latinas. Like a true godmother, Lucy aims to uplift and guide others, using her platform to create opportunities, amplify voices, and nurture the next generation of leaders in Portland’s food scene.

At Madrina, every dish is a reflection of Lucy’s journey—from the fields to the kitchen, from daughter to leader, from dreamer to mentor. It's a place where culture is honored, where women are empowered, and where everyone is welcome to gather, share, and feel seen.

Thank you for being part of this story. We can’t wait to welcome you to Madrina, where every meal is served with heart, heritage, and the warmth of a godmother’s care.

Con cariño,
Lucy De Leon
